Hi everyone!

Weather permitting, we are planning a double dive trip to our local jewels China Wall and/or Cherubs Cave in North Moreton Island. Both sites are on the eastern side of Moreton Island and exposed to the sea conditions. The boat trip to the sites is approximately 75-90 minutes each way and will be either from Bribie Island or Cleveland via South Passage bar.

China Wall with its depth to 30 m is more suitable for experienced+ divers. It is dominated by a thick layer of broad-leafed kelp. The outstanding feature is a tall vertical granite outcrop with a 2 m wide swim-through at the top. This site has numerous caves, gutters, walls, and a very pretty rock arch. In and around the kelp beds expect to see abundant reef fish, bullseyes, yellowtail, trevally, kingfish, blue gropers, wobbegongs, and turtles.

Cherubs-cave is a true jewel among Brisbane's dive sites located on the east side of Moreton Island. It's a hidden cave which is surrounded by rocky gullies and smaller caves and measures around 15 by 20 m in the accessible area and about the same in the inaccessible part. With 20-30 m depth, this site is for the more experienced divers to enjoy.

Weather permitting, we are seeking to put together a dive team of no more than nine divers for a double dive to China Wall / Cherubs cave. This is an EXP+ trip. The minimum requirement for this trip is:

  • Advanced or equivalent certification
  • Minimum 40 dives and 20 different dive sites.
  • Proven experience diving in moderate current, from a moored boat (not drift dive)
  • Proven ability to navigate an unfamiliar site with ability to return to the anchor point
  • Proven ability to deploy DSMB from safety stop
  • Divers diving beyond 30 metres must have suitable certification from a recognised agency.

Boat Handlers for the day are Trevor and Mikael.

Each team member is expected to assist with the day's operation. Please nominate a task.

The cost will be around $120. A trip meeting will be organised at the shed on Thursday 7th July at 6.30 pm. Gear hire is the responsibility of each individual diver; except weights and tanks which will be loaded on the day (as a group).

Each diver must:

Be a current Unidive member and be medically fit to dive.

Meet the EXP+ minimum requirements listed above

Dive with a DSMB, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied. Shears can be purchased from Unidive.

Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not hire them.

Dive within their certification and capability.

Help out throughout the whole day.
