Hi everyone!

Weather permitting, we are planning a double dive trip at East Moreton.

Cherruba Cave is the destination, named after a cave system located under a large circular shaped bommie on the north-west side of the main bommie.

The cave has four entrances that are difficult to find as they are covered with kelp. Once in the cave, light penetrates through the other entrances, aiding navigation. The maximum height of the cave is 12m.

This dive site boasts a large variety of marine life which includes an abundance of Grey Nurse Sharks, different varieties of Cod and Grouper, Anemones and Clown Fish on top of an abundance of macro life for the avid photographer.

This site has something for everyone!

Note: As the dive site is deeper than 18m and often prone to currents, this trip is for experienced+ divers, with Advanced certification (or equivalent), and who have a minimum of 40 dives at 20 different dive sites.

The boat ride in the club boat (DownUnder) is 1.5 hour each way, so if you are prone to seasickness be prepared.

Diver requirements are listed below as per by-laws.

Total cost per person will depend on fuel use but is usually around $100-120 (including tanks, snacks, carpooling and boat costs).

As usual, we will give priority to people who can help make the trip happen:

- Covid Delegate (you'll be in charge of informing us about the latest requirements how to stay safe)

- Finance person (you'll be in charge of collecting money at the end)

- Tank transport (depending on where we fill the tanks, they may need to be dropped and picked up, so a big car/ute would be helpful)

Each diver must:

  • Be a current Unidive member, medically fit to dive, who passed the swimming test
  • Have an Advanced certfication or equivalent
  • Have a minimum of 40 dives at 20 different dive sites
  • Have dived in the last 6 months
  • Dive with a DSMB, cutting device and whistle.
Note: These items are NOT supplied.
Note: A DSMB is different to a "safety sausage", and you need to be able to deploy your DSMB from your safety stop, ie 5m below the surface.
  • Have proven experience diving in moderate current, from a moored boat (not drift dive)
  • Have proven ability to navigate an unfamiliar site with ability to return to the anchor point
  • Have proven ability to deploy DSMB from safety stop
  • Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not provide them.
Note: If you need to borrow other equipment such as BCD, reg, wetsuit, it is your responsibility to hire these before the trip; there will be no time to sort this out on the day of the trip. Tanks and weights will be loaded on the day.
  • Dive within their certification and capability
  • Follow instructions given by the Boat Handlers, the Dive Supervisor, and the COVID Safety Delegate
  • Observe COVID safety precautions as per Unidive's COVID safety policy
  • Agree that contact details of participants will be provided to Qld Health upon request for the purpose of contact tracing
  • Help out throughout the whole day
  • Notify the Dive Officer of any changes to their personal circumstances as declared in the event registration form
  • Be able to attend a trip meeting the Thursday beforehand at 6:30 pm at the Unidive shed
