Byron Bay | Julian Rocks Weekend

Heard of Byron Bay but haven't managed to get there yet? Wondering what all the fuss about Julian Rocks is? If you’re here on exchange and keen to check Byron Bay out then this weekend is for you!

I’m organizing a weekend trip down to Byron Bay, NSW. Byron Bay is located 2.5 hours south of Brisbane, and is famous for beaches, relaxed vibe & diving!

The plan is to drive down Friday night (traffic will be heavy) staying at Cape Byron YHA Hostel. We’ll do all our own cooking there – they have lots of facilities.

The trip is open to Open Water divers and above; the shop does provide DM/Instructors to guide you around.

Volunteer tasks:

• Driving
• Finance
• Cooking
• Shopping (food)

Note all volunteer positions need to be filled in order for this weekend to get ahead.

Important information, please read everything carefully.

Costs:

The rough cost for the weekend will be around $295 for 1 double dive, or $445 for 2 double dives per person. Diving is with Sun Dive Byron Bay. Final cost will be known once the food is purchased. Please bring cash with you to pay on Sunday.

Diving Information:

Since the cost of the weekend will add up pretty quick, there is an option to do one double dive on Saturday morning only (I will be doing this). There is lots to explore in and around Byron Bay so we can have a full day exploring on Sunday should you only dive once. However you're welcome to dive both Saturday & Sunday.

Note that Sun Dive returns to the shop between dives & does not stay at the dive site.

We are on the following boats:

Saturday: 10 am & 12:45 pm

Sunday: 7 am & 10 am

Depending on who is keen to dive one or both days, we may not have exclusive use of Sun Dives boat. When you call the shop to book, let them know which day(s) you want to dive.

Deposit:

For this trip I won’t be collecting a deposit. However you need to phone the dive shop & hostel to book. Please quote this dive trip when doing so.

Please note that if you can’t attend this trip anymore, you’ll need to deal with the dive shop directly. Regardless of the reason, it’s as per their cancellation policy.

Accommodation:

YHA Byron Bay has agreed to cancel our reservation on the Thursday before. It's your responsibility to phone and get your refund during the day should the trip be cancelled.

Driving:

We plan to leave sometime Friday afternoon/evening, the exact time will depend on the drivers and which car you’re in. The traffic will be heavy heading south on Friday, so I anticipate we won’t arrive until at least 22:00 QLD time/23:00 NSW time. Day Light Saving is in affect for this trip.

General:

Please also keep Thursday 8^th November free from 18:30 for a quick meeting. This is also the time to hire any gear you might need from the club.

There are 14 spots available, but we’ll only take 12 dives down. So there will be two (hopefully) on the wait-list.
