Flinders Reef

Note: this trip was postponed from 16/9 due to weather (priority will be given to those who were signed up for that trip)

Flinders-Reef is a small isolated reef north of Moreton Island. It has the highest number of coral species of any subtropical reef system along Australia's east coast. With thousands of species of tropical fish, an array of hard and soft corals, eagle rays, leopard sharks in summer, grey nurse sharks and humpback whales in winter, and the famous Turtle Cleaning Station in only 5m of water it is one of Queensland's most popular open water level dive sites.

Boat Handlers for the day are Captain Lock Pollard and First Mate Justin Marriner.

Weather permitting, we are seeking to put together a dive team of up to nine divers for a double dive to Flinders Reef.  This is an OW trip and we'd really like to provide an opportunity for less experienced divers to get some more experience, so we're giving priority to those with less than 20 dives, especially those who've never been on the club boat before.

The dive day is long starting at 6:00 am at the Unidive shed to load the boat and finish around 6:00 pm.

This trip is organised by volunteers and each team member is expected to assist with the day's operation.

The cost will be around $100. A trip meeting will be organised at the shed 6:30 pm on Thu 4th October. Gear hire is the responsibility of each individual diver; except weights and tanks which will be loaded on the day (as a group).

Each diver must:

  • Be a current Unidive member and be medically fit to dive.
  • Dive with an SMB/safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied. Safety sausage and shears can be purchased from Unidive.
  • Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not hire them.
  • Dive within their certification and capability.
  • Help out throughout the whole day.

If this is of interest, then sign up for the adventure. We've set the sign-ups to allow more than the maximum numbers so that we can firstly give preference to the less experienced and secondly have some reserves. We will review the list and notify the dive team ahead of the trip meeting.  If you miss out, don't worry... just find a willing boathandler and organise a trip to go another day!  😊
