Search for a Walrus
Dive 1
Ex-HMAS Brisbane. Explore the wreck and try to find where the walrus is hiding: is it in head, the galley, the engine room?
Dive 2
Gneerings
Perhaps the walrus is on the openwater. Here we search the crevices and pinnacles that make up the Gneerings.
We will drop tanks at Sun reef to be filled - go to the surf club for lunch and maybe have a swim.
Boat Handlers for the day are Captain Lock Pollard and First Mate Justin Marriner.
Weather permitting, we are seeking to put together a dive team of up to nine divers who are experienced. There will be assigned tasks for each diver: finance, snacks, tanks, tanks, trip report (post dive), trip outline (post dive),
The dive day is long starting at 6:00 am at the Unidive shed to load the boat and finish around 7:00 pm.
This trip is organised by volunteers and each team member is expected to assist with the day's operation.
The cost will be around $100; because we pay for a permit for a dive at HMAS Brisbane. A trip meeting will be organised at the shed 6:30 pm on Thursday Dec 6th. If you can't make the meeting and have not been on the boat before you can't come. Gear hire is the responsibility of each individual diver; except weights and tanks which will be loaded on the day (as a group).
Each diver must:
- Be a current Unidive member and be medically fit to dive.
- Have completed the UQ Sport Swim Test and be an an experienced Unidiver
- Dive with an SMB/safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied. Safety sausage and shears can be purchased from Unidive.
- Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not hire them.
- Dive within their certification and capability.
- Help out throughout the whole day.
If this is of interest, then sign up for the adventure. We've set the sign-ups to allow more than the maximum numbers so that we can firstly give preference to the less experienced and secondly have some reserves. We will review the list and notify the dive team ahead of the trip meeting. If you miss out, don't worry... just find a willing boathandler and organise a trip to go another day! 😊
