Event information
Registration for this event closes at Thu 31 Jul 2025 09:00.
The PADI Rescue Diver course will make you a much more confident diver because you will have the exact know-how to act in case of diving emergencies or missing divers and more importantly, you will know how to prevent these events from happening in the first place!
COURSE LAYOUT:
- ONLINE TRAINING:
Start your independent online training at home through the world-class PADI eLearning system. We will issue this to you once course numbers have been met and everyone has paid the registration fee, thus once the course is fully confirmed. PADI will send you a link to begin your eLearning, so keep an eye on your inbox.
- ORIENTATION + LOAN GEAR NIGHT: Wednesday 6th August 5:30PM -> Late @ UQ Classroom
Meet your instructor and fellow students, review your online training, and discuss course logistics and details.
As a Unidive member, you can loan gear from the club, generally the Thursday before our dives. For your rescue course, you will be able to organise everything on Wednesday night instead. Please see Diving -> Loans on the Unidive website for more information. Note that you can only borrow BCDs, regulators and wetsuits from the club, all other gear you need to purchase. When registering for the course, please indicate what loan gear you require.
- OCEAN DAY 1: Saturday 9th August 9:00AM -> 6PM @ Tweed Heads
Spend a full day in the pool practising rescue skills and going through scenarios.
- OCEAN DAY 2: Sunday 10th August 9:00AM -> 3PM @ Tweed Heads
Run through a range of scenarios to put the theory and skills you have learned into practice! Bring an unresponsive diver to the surface, practice surface rescue scenarios and learn how to get reunited with a lost buddy or lost gear!

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
- Be an Advanced Diver (PADI AOW Diver or equivalent)
This course is only for certified Advanced Divers. Please ensure that your dive certification is up to date on your Unidive profile.
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
To gain your Rescue diver qualification, you need to have your Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) qualifications up to date. This expires every three years. Also, I highly recommend all scuba divers (particularly rescue divers) complete their annual Provide CPR (HLTAID009) and Provide Advanced Resus and Oxygen (HLTAID015), but this is not compulsory.
If your qualifications are up-to-date, simply register for the rescue course and send the certificates to training@unidive.org.
If your qualifications are not up-to-date, please organise through any Australian accredited first aid training facility and send the certificates to training@unidive.org. I recommend organising before the course if possible, but it can be done after your rescue training. Please note that you will not be certified as a PADI Rescue diver until you have sent your Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) certification.
HOW TO REGISTER AND SECURE YOUR PLACE ON THE COURSE:
Simply, register for the rescue course event on the Unidive Website (button above). You will have 1 week to pay from the date of registration. This is to ensure we can issue online learning as soon as possible, to give students time to complete it before the orientation session. If you have not paid in this time, your place will be given to the next member on the waiting list.
There are three ways to pay:
- through the website
- EFTPOS - be at the club next Thursday night
- Bank Transfer- make sure to have the Invoice Number and name in the description to help out the treasurer.
