Event information

Hey everyone!
Jens and I are planning a dive with Down Under on the 8th of August to Cherubs Cave and Henderson Rock to see Grey Nurse sharks and whales. Weather permitting, we are seeking to put together a dive team for a double dive. This is an EXP+ trip. The minimum requirement for this trip is:
- Advanced or equivalent certification.
- You must have at least 50 dives on at least 10 dive sites
- You must have dived in the last six months or in accordance with the Unidive amended changes suitable to your level.
- You must have the skills to navigate on an unfamiliar site (given a map); hold a position in a current, and deploy a safety sausage below the surface.
The boat ride is about 1.5 hours. It can be very bumpy once we cross the bar so be mindful of any back or neck pain.
Preference will be given to divers who were on our trip in January that was cancelled and to others that have organised a trip and had it cancelled due to bad weather; and to people who offer to assist with tanks.
Each team member is expected to assist with the day's operation. Please nominate a task.
The cost will be around 90-100$, but could be higher given we can only have 7 divers.
Please make sure you are also able to come along to the trip meeting at the shed on Thursday 6th August at 6.30 pm.
Gear hire is the responsibility of each individual diver. Weights and tanks will be loaded on the day (as a group) - no need to hire these.
Each diver must:
- Be a current Unidive member, medically fit to dive, who passed the swimming test
- Have at least Advanced or equivalent certification
- Have at least 50 dives on at least 10 dive sites
- Have dived in the last 6 months or in accordance with the Covid new regulations with respect to your accreditation
- Dive with an SMB/safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied. Safety sausage and shears can be purchased from Unidive.
- Have the skills to navigate on an unfamiliar site (given a map); hold a position in a current, and deploy a safety sausage below the surface.
- Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not hire them.
- Dive within their certification and capability.
- Maintain 1.5m physical distancing as far as reasonably practicable.
- Follow instructions, including the COVID-safe instructions, given by the trip organiser, the operator and covered in Unidive COVID-safe plan
- Agree that contact details of participants will be provided to Qld Health upon request for the purpose of contact tracing
- Help out throughout the whole day.
