Who's up for a cheap and cheerful shore dive?
The Gold Coast Seaway is one of our under-rated local (for an Australian definition of local!) shore dives. High tide on the 5th September is at 10am.
There are a few different ways to dive this site, but we're looking at splitting into two waves - one that goes in before HT and enjoys the rocks along the edge (this is the easier option and good for less experienced divers, or those coming back from a break) and a second group that goes in after HT and enjoys "the pipe" during the proper slack water. The exact meeting time for each group will be confirmed later, but you can estimate by considering that it's about an hour and a half drive, plus time to get ready and brief. Same with the return time.
We will have surface watch for both groups (we'll swap, so SW gets to dive too), but unfortunately there'll be no BBQ lunch due to the current restrictions - it's BYO food. If you're interested in going, please sign up early so we have time to organise car-pooling and buddy-pairing ahead of time. Cost will just be your tank fill and petrol contribution (plus whatever hire gear you need).
Each diver must:
- Be a current Unidive member, medically fit to dive, who passed the swimming test.
- Dive with an SMB/safety sausage, cutting device and whistle. Note: These items are NOT supplied. Safety sausage and shears can be purchased from Unidive.
- Bring their own mask, snorkel, and fins as Unidive does not hire them.
- Dive within their certification and capability.
- Maintain 1.5m physical distancing as far as reasonably practicable.
- Follow instructions, including the COVID-safe instructions, given by the trip organiser, the operator and covered in Unidive COVID-safe plan
- Agree that contact details of participants will be provided to Qld Health upon request for the purpose of contact tracing
- Help out throughout the whole day.
If you have any questions about the trip, please email dive@unidive.org.
