Management
UniDive is a not-for-profit 100% volunteer organisation managed through our members. The members choose the executive and management committee from its members once a year during the Annual General Meeting (AGM), usually organised in March or April.
- The objects for which the Association is established are:
(1) to advance SCUBA diving and skin diving within the University of Queensland;
(2) to promote amateur SCUBA diving and skin diving safety by strict adherence to the safety rules of the sport;
(3) to protect and propagate marine life;
(4) to arrange expeditions and organise social events and competitions for members of the Association;
(5) to affiliate with national and state bodies and to work in conjunction with clubs of similar aims for the further safety and advancement of the Association and its members;
(6) to promote good relations between members of the Association and the public;
(7) to provide education and training in SCUBA diving and associated activities to members of the Association; and
(8) to comply with the constitution and regulations of UQ Sport.
Rules and Bylaws
The rules and regulations of UniDive are described in the Club Rules document and the Bylaws. They describe the different positions, committees and procedures for daily management of the club, including boating and diving. Rules and Bylaws are reviewed every two years.
Management Committee
The Management Committee contains several members, the number can vary between committee terms. There are four executive and seven standard non-executive positions with voting rights at committee meetings (as described in the Rules). Other non–voting positions can be created as needed, including assistants to the standard positions.
Management and General Meetings
The Management Committee meets every month and manages club activities. Special General Meetings involve all members who wish to participate and are used by the management committee to discuss and inform its members about changes within the club. Some specific items (such as membership fees) cannot be changed by the management committee without being taken to an Annual General Meeting or Special General Meeting and being put to the members.
Challenges raised by the members can be presented by any member at the management meeting after discussing it with the Secretary or any other executive member.
Safety Committee
The Safety Committee is appointed by the management committee. The management committee choose a chair and the other members are either also chosen by the management committee, or suggested by the chair and approved by the management committee. The Safety committee meet every quarter to discuss safety challenges with in the club and/or approve applications for boat-handling and towing of club boat and gear trailer.
