Stradbroke Island Dive Trip 5-7 October 2018

G’day fellow Unidivers,

I am organising a dive trip with the Grey Nurse Sharks at Stradbroke Island, hosted by the one and only, Ken over the weekend of the 5^th-7^th October 2018. The weekend will include diving with grey nurse and if we are lucky - whales, socialising, dad jokes, chocolate brownies and ice-cream from Point Lookout. Personally, I’m there for the ice-cream and brownies. 😉 If this is of interest to you, read on!

We will be attempting to dive with the Grey Nurse Sharks which hang around Flat Rock during the winter months. The dives will be to 30m with potential current, so the trip will be limited to divers with at least an Advanced Open Water certification. Each day will include a double dive with the dive location depending on the current weather conditions. Experienced divers (DM) to assist with dive operations and people with cars to transport the group to Cleveland will be most appreciated. At present the trip is limited to one house (10 people) and one wave of diving but if there is enough interest and a suitably qualified person to run a second boat I will expand the trip to 20 people.

A meeting will take place on Thursday night (6:30 pm 4th October) at the Unidive shed to sort out the trip logistics. The plan is to meet at the Cleveland ferry terminal (6:30pm 5^th October) for the 7pm ferry, returning on the 5 pm Sunday ferry. This puts us back in Brisbane around 7pm. Cars for ride sharing are required. Accommodation at Ken’s place has character and is best describes as back-packer dorm style. So, you will need to supply your own sheets/sleeping bag/ pillow/towel etc. A food kitty will be in operation for the trip from Sat breakfast to Sun lunch. Friday dinner is not supplied. Please note any dietary requirements when signing up. Let me know if your partner is on the trip….. double rooms maybe available….

Dive gear is not included and is your responsible with Unidive gear hire available for this trip. Tanks and weights are supplied by Ken.

The total cost will be around $300 - $320: 2 * double dives ($200) + 2 * nights’ accommodation ($50) and approx. $50-70 for food and ferry. Please compensate your driver if you carpool to Cleveland for the service.

When the above items have been received, I will review your diving certification and I will email you with a receipt. Your trip participation is successfully on receipt of my email. Your deposit will be refunded if trip inclusion was unsuccessful.

This trip is being organised on a volunteer basis, so your participation is required for a successful trip. Priority will be given to those willing to help with: cooking, cleaning, dive operations, boat loading and transport. Please indicate when signing up if you are willing to assist.
