See your beloved site through a new lens by transposing it onto paper. The ability to map out a dive site is a vital skill to learn and practice because it brings together all the fundamentals of navigation and dive planning. The safest divers automatically map out a site before, during and after a dive so that they know a site better than the back of their hand.
So, if you've ever had a moment during a dive where you've been unsure which direction the exit was or you've been relieved to have an experienced buddy to follow, then this workshop is for you. In other words, this workshop is for everyone!
SCHEDULE
Thursday 10th July 6 PM- We will meet at the club shed 6 AM to go through dive briefing, carpool logistics and organise loan equipment. We will then go over to a grassy area to go through compass skills and general navigation theory.
Sunday 13th July 7:30 AM- Meeting at Tweed Heads at 7:30 AM. After getting the gear together, we will snorkel over the site to familiarise ourselves and take initial compass bearings. Tweed Heads has two common entry/exit points: the beach and the stairs. Therefore, we will explore both of these first with a snorkel, then scuba. We will then map out the site using our compass, natural navigation and kick cycles. High tide is at 9:38 AM. We will be out of the water by midday and have lunch and a debrief near Kirra beach.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
This dive is perfect for any diver wanting to enhance their navigation skills.
To make this as smooth as possible, we will need volunteers
- experienced divers who are happy to share their experience and advice with other divers
- drive carpool
- Help transport cylinders to and from a dive shop for airfills
- shore support
If you are keen for this workshop but the event is full or you are unavailable, please let me know. Knowing the workshop's interest helps me know how soon to run another. The capacity can also be increased if we have enough volunteers to help out.
