Hi Divers!
I'm organising a weekend diving trip to Wolf Rock and the ex-HMAS Tobruk on 20-22 February 2026. On this trip, you will meet some new dive buddies, consume some excellent food (Argentinian BBQ for dinner on Saturday night), and have an experience you will remember for the rest of your life!
Please note that due to the depths at Wolf Rock and the ex-HMAS Tobruk, Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) is required, and as all dives with Wolf Rock are on Nitrox, then Nitrox qualification is also needed.
WHAT'S THE PLAN FOR THE WEEKEND?
Friday 20/2/2026
Departing around 4 pm, we will drive from Brisbane to Rainbow Beach, where we will check into our cabin-style accommodation for Friday and Saturday nights.
Saturday 21/2/2026
Drive the short distance (< 10 minutes) from Rainbow Beach to Carlo Point, where the Wolf Rock Dive charters depart from. We will have a double dive at the famous Wolf Rock, where Grey Nurse sharks are found 12 months of the year.
ABOUT WOLF ROCK DIVE SITE:
[The following is a description extracted from the Wolf Rock Dive webpage: https://wolfrockdive.com.au/]
Located 2km off Double Island Point, Wolf Rock was classified as a marine sanctuary in 2003 when it was observed to be the only known gestation site for the critically endangered Grey Nurse Shark on the East Coast of Australia. Swimming with large Sharks and Rays is something that happens on every dive at Wolf Rock.
Wolf Rock really is the land of the giants; Grey Nurse Sharks are found throughout the year, with other frequent visitors to the Rock including Manta Rays, Leopard Sharks, Eagle Rays, Blotched Fan Tail Rays, Sea Turtles, Olive Sea Snakes, Giant Queensland Grouper and in the winter, the Humpback Whales!
Due to the proximity of the Great Barrier Reef, you can expect to see a vast array of Tropical and Subtropical reef fish alongside all the other Pelagics! If you feel like swapping your wide-angle for a macro lens, you will not be disappointed. Wolf Rock is covered with Nudibranchs, Pipe Fish, Frogfish, Eels, Octopus, Sea Apples and much, much more!
There will be time for a swim (on a patrolled surf beach) on Saturday afternoon after the dives. After that, we will need to pack our gear for an early Sunday morning departure to Hervey Bay to dive the EX HMAS Brisbane.
Sunday 22/2/2026.
Depart Rainbow Beach by 6.45 am for the 90-minute drive to Hervey Bay. We will have a double dive on the ex-HMAS Tobruk.
ABOUT ex-HMAS Tobruk DIVE SITE:
[The following is a description extracted from the Dive Hervey Bay website]
The Ex-HMAS Tobruk rests on the seabed in an area just North of Hervey Bay. She came to rest on her starboard side and does not disappoint as Australia's latest dive wreck!
The unexpected orientation only makes for a more interesting and unusual dive. The Tobruk is like no other wreck in Queensland or the world! She offers a unique diving experience with excellent access and awe-inspiring scale. Her stern doors are open, revealing her colossal main tank deck and providing a full-length (almost 120m!) swim-through experience like no other.
Resting on her side, the dive depth ranges from 12 - 30 meters, with ample interesting sections for divers to feel comfortable and challenged. It will only take a short period of time for nature to reclaim this majestic behemoth. Divers will explore the ship and her surroundings, encountering a bounty of fascinating marine life.
Colourful reef fish and anemones will greet excited divers as they descend. Octopus, Lion & Puffer fish, along with sparkling schools of Baitfish, may part as you swim through the second-to-none cavernous tank deck.
Sunday afternoon, we will drive back to Brisbane, with an estimated time of return of 6:30 pm.
