Free Pool / Open Training Night

Event information

This event has passed.

Join us for Open Training Night and make the most of our exclusive pool access!

We’re lucky to have the pool from 7:00–8:00 pm, giving all members the opportunity to jump in—whether that’s swimming laps, splashing around, completing your UQ swim test, or fine-tuning your scuba skills.

If you need Unidive gear, please arrive at the shed from 6:30 pm.

What’s Included

To make training accessible for everyone, the club provides:

  • Loan gear – FREE
  • Tank fills – FREE

Simply come down, grab some gear, and hop in!

All divers must have a buddy. If you don’t have one organised, consider posting in the Facebook group beforehand or find someone on the night. There is also a WhatsApp community group we encourage you to message to find Buddys and discuss what you want to practice tonight. This chat includes many training volunteers who are happy to help you increase your skills.

Diving Requirements & Safety

Even though this is a pool session, all standard scuba safety procedures apply:

  • Dive within your training and certification level
  • Always dive with a buddy
  • Finish your dive with at least 50 bar remaining

Timing & Pack Down

  • Gear Access: 6:30 pm - sign out your gear with the designated training volunteer (this week ask for Training Officer Mia)
  • Pool access: 7:00–8:00 pm
  • Please be out of the pool by 8:00 pm
  • All gear must be cleaned and returned by 8:30 pm

Staying within these times is important to respect volunteers, lifeguards and venue requirements.

Gear Availability

Please note that gear availability is not guaranteed, even with early registration to the event.

Priority is given to:

  • Official Unidive workshops, courses, and events
  • Members with private weekly loan agreements

Any remaining gear will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, from 6:30pm onwards on the night.

UQ Swim Test

You can complete your UQ swim test during this session:

  • 400m swim (untimed)
  • 2 minutes treading water (lifeguard supervised)

This test is required for all water-based clubs and must be completed every two years.

Event Registration is Required

  • All attendees must be registered for the event on Unidive
  • This ensures an accurate manifest for safety and emergency purposes
  • It is also required for UQ insurance coverage
  • Event registration does not guarantee access to free airfill or gear.

Please ensure your member details and emergency contact information are up to date.
