Event information

Registrations for this event are closed.

The weekend will include 4 dives with tanks & weights, group food, transport and 2 nights accommodation. Free good times. The trip usually costs around $300. We meet at Cleveland at 6:30pm on the Friday and get back there again about 5ish on the Sunday.

You need to bring own dive gear, sleeping bag, pillow, tooth brush and sense of adventure. Swimwear helps too. We will assist with organising car pooling to the ferry - if we're low on cars, there is a train.

There will be a pre-trip meeting on the 7th March (yes, 2 Thursday before) at 6pm. You MUST be there (or give the trip organiser a really convincing sob story beforehand).

There are multiple dive sites at Point Lookout. Some are suitable for everyone, others are only suitable for experienced divers. We're hoping the mantas and leopard sharks won't have left yet (they visit us for summer), so we're planning to dive mostly at Manta Bommie. This site is suitable for OW divers (but can be prone to current in some locations, so we'll try to make sure there's someone who can navigate in each small group!). This means that if there are no mantas, we'll likely end up looking at pretty things on Shag Rock, but if there are sufficient experienced divers we may be able to go elsewhere. It all depends... and like all diving, it's weather dependent!

Haven't done a refresher yet? If you haven't dived in the last 6-12 months, please discuss this with the trip organiser up front - it's better to know what to do earlier, rather than later :)

Hopefully we'll have better vis than when I was there for mantas in 2016!

Note 1: Everyone must have done the swim test prior to signing up. Everyone must be able to show their scuba certification to the trip organiser and/or Ken before diving. Everyone is expected to be there for the full weekend, as it gets way too complicated if everyone's doing their own thing.

Note 2: I have set the sign-ups to open on the 1st March, to give those signing up in O-Week a chance to get their swim tests done. You will have to have been marked as having passed it in our system to be able to sign up. Anyone I add before that point is someone who's helping organise - it's a big job! :)
