Gold Coast Seaway - OW - Bianca

Event information

Registrations for this event are closed.

Hey everyone!

We’re heading down to Seaway for a dive on:

📅 Sunday 21st of June!

  • Meet at the UniDive Shed: 6:00 AM

  • Departure: 6:00 AM sharp (I know it is early but traffic can be a little tricky, and we want to arrive with plenty of time to set up, get to know the dive site and get ready)

  • Dive format: Single dive followed by social lunch (BYO food and drinks)
  • Dive plan: hight tide 9:04 AM. The best time to jump in, would be 15-20 min before high tide as the visibility is best during that time. This dive can only be done when the tide is incoming, therefore, this dive site has to be scheduled according to the tides and should never be done on an outgoing tide.
🌊 What to Expect at the Seaway

Gold Coast Seaway is about 1.25 hr S of Brisbane. With over 400 different species found in the Seaway, the Seaway dive site is one of the most popular shore dives in South East Queensland as it offers a wonderful habitat for these creatures! The Seaway is the main navigation entrance from the Pacific Ocean into the Gold Coast Broadwater. There are two sets of stairs on the south side of the Seaway that lead down to the south wall dive site. An elevated pipeline runs from south to north across the Seaway is great to explore, as it's a place the Queensland Groper's like to hang out!

Each diver must:

  • Be a current UniDive member, medically fit to dive, and have a valid UQ Swim Test Certificate
  • Have dived in the last 6 months
  • Have an Open Water (or equivalent) dive certification from a recognised agency.
  • Dive within their certification and capability
  • Ensure that they have all required dive gear, and are familiar with all aspects of it
  • Dive with an SMB / "safety sausage"cutting device (knife) and whistle. Bring their own masksnorkel, and fins. Note: These items are NOT supplied (you need to bring your own)
  • If you need to hire other equipment such as BCD, reg, wetsuit, it is your responsibility to hire these before the trip (typically at the UniDive shed on Thursday night before the trip). There will be no time to sort out gear hire on the day of the trip.
There's no need to hire tanks and weights, as these are included in the trip and will be loaded from the shed on the day.
  • Follow instructions given by the Dive Supervisor, and other people in charge (such as the commercial operator)
  • Help out throughout the whole day
  • Notify the Trip Organiser and Dive Supervisor asap of any changes to personal circumstances as declared in the event registration form
  • Attend the trip meeting (the Thursday beforehand at 6:15 pm at the UniDive shed)
 ðŸ’° Costs
  • Cost includes car pooling, tanks, tanks refill and weights/belts (one tank per person) – $35.
  • All other gear rental separate.

  • You must bring your own mask, snorkel, fins, SMB, a whistle and a cutting device (i.e. a diver's knife or scissors).

🚗 Carpooling

We’ll need volunteers for carpooling to make this happen. Please indicate when registering if you can help.

We will also need someone to drop off tanks for refill from dive shop in Wooloongaba after the dive, and someone to pick them up and bring them back to the shed on the following Thursday.

Shore support needed

We need one shore support volunteer with up-to-date First Aid, CPR, and Oâ‚‚ provider training.

If you have any questions about the trip, please contact the dive officer at dive@unidive.org.

Let’s make it a great dive and a fun social day! 🌞
