Join us for Unidive Pool Night and make the most of our exclusive access to the UQ Aquatic Centre!
We have exclusive use of the 50 m pool from 7:00–8:30 pm, giving members the perfect opportunity to swim laps, snorkel, complete their UQ swim test, or practise scuba skills in a relaxed environment.
Our booking also includes exclusive access to the centre until 9:00 pm, allowing plenty of time to pack up equipment, return gear, shower, and get changed without feeling rushed. Many members also head out for dinner together afterwards.
Schedule
50 m Pool access 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
Changerooms and Centre Open Until 9:00 pm
Please help us respect our volunteers, lifeguards, and venue by ensuring to:
- Exit the pool by 8:30 pm
- Shower, and leave the centre by 9:00 pm with all your scuba equipment and personal belongings, as the lifeguards will lock up and go home at 9pm.
- All loan gear must be cleaned and returned to the Training Volunteer by 9:00 pm
Registration Required: All attendees must register for this event through the Unidive website.
Registration is required because:
- We have exclusive after-hours access to the UQ Aquatic Centre.
- An accurate attendance manifest is required for emergency management.
- Registration is necessary for UQ insurance coverage.
Please ensure your membership details and emergency contact information are up to date.
Diving Safety
Although this is a pool session, all normal scuba safety procedures apply.
Please:
- Dive within your training and certification level.
- Always dive with a buddy: If you don't already have a buddy, we recommend:
- Posting in the Unidive Facebook group before the event.
- Joining our WhatsApp community to organise dive buddies and discuss what you'd like to practise. Many experienced members and training volunteers are active in the WhatsApp group and are happy to provide tips and guidance. WhatsApp Community: https://chat.whatsapp.com/EkgInVyZ6cwCADFfwGWFi6
- Join one of the official Unidive Pool workshops led by experienced volunteers (details in separate events)
- Finish every dive with a minimum of 50 bar remaining.
If a member is not seen to be respecting these requirements they will be asked to stop, given a formal warning and may led to missing out on future Unidive events.
Ticket Options
🏊 Option A – Free Swim
Come along to:
- Swim laps
- Snorkel
- Float around
- Practise freediving
- Race your friends on inflatables
- Enjoy the pool however you like!
🏅 Option B – UQ Swim Test
Complete your required UQ swim competency assessment:
- 400 m continuous swim (untimed)
- 2 minutes treading water (lifeguard supervised)
This test is required for members of all UQ water-based clubs and must be renewed every two years.
🤿 Option C – Bring Your Own Scuba Equipment
Already have your own gear? Bring it along and enjoy a self-directed practice session with your buddy. Please note that this includes weights and cylinders.
🤿 Option D – Loan UniDive Scuba Equipment ($15)
Borrow a complete scuba set, including:
- Cylinder
- BCD
- Regulator
- Weights
The $15 hire fee helps cover cylinder fills and equipment maintenance. Please note that you will need to bring your own mask, fins and snorkel.
UniDive provides these heavily subsidised pool nights to make scuba practice affordable and accessible for all members. Simply collect your equipment, find a buddy, and enjoy the pool!
Option D: Gear Collection
Equipment can be collected from approximately 6:30 pm, once all official UniDive events and weekly equipment loans have been allocated their gear.
Please collect and sign out your equipment with the designatedTraining Volunteer (this week, that's Training Officer Mia). This is not the volunteers at the Loans table—look instead for the person with the clipboard and the funny hat.
Interested in wearing the funny hat at a future Pool Night? We'd love the help! Email training@unidive.org.
The Training Volunteer supports the Loans Officers, workshop leaders and trip organisers by coordinating pool-night logistics. This includes tracking equipment in and out of the pool, ensuring gear required for weekend events remains available, and helping coordinate cylinder filling throughout the evening.
Option D: Equipment Availability
Equipment is allocated in the following order of priority:
- Official UniDive courses, workshops and training events.
- Members with approved weekly equipment loan agreements.
- Pool Night equipment bookings (Option D).
To help ensure equipment is available, Option D ticket numbers are limited based on the amount of equipment expected to be free on the night.
As UniDive is run entirely by volunteers, unforeseen equipment shortages can occasionally occur. If the required equipment is unexpectedly unavailable, your $15 hire fee will be fully refunded, and you'll receive priority access to loan equipment at a future Pool Night.
Option D: Waiting List
If more gear becomes available, the waiting list will be contacted in the order of registration. On the night, if last-minute gear is available, only those at the pool/ shed will be told and given the gear in the order of registration.
We look forward to seeing you in the pool!
