Julian Rocks with Blue Bay Divers

About the dive site

Julian Rocks is one of Australia's top dive sites.

The Julian Rocks Nature Reserve is approximately 2.5kms north east of Byron Bay. It comprises two small islands and several reef areas. Some of the creatures you may see include: leopard sharks, grey nurse sharks and wobbegong sharks, Queensland groupers, anemonefish, bull rays, eagle rays, turtles, manta rays, snapper, bream and a wide variety of nudibranchs.

Blue Bay Divers are located in Brunswick Heads, 1h 45min drive down from Brisbane.

The Plan is to leave early in the morning to arrive at Blue Bay Divers by 7:15am. Then Double dive on Julian Rocks and back to Brisbane by 2-3pm.

This trip is for Open Water certified divers and Blue Bay Divers will provide two Divemasters on board for us.

Cost & volunteer jobs

The cost will be $130 incl. tanks and weights (but excl. gear hire). There will also some contribution to carpooling (~$5-$10 depending on how many people we fit in each car).

We have some volunteer jobs to give away to make this day happening including:

- drivers for car pooling (we try to look after the environment and will take as few cars as possible, so if you decide to drive by yourself, you will not get fuel contribution!)

- finances

- trip report.

Gear Hire

Tanks, weights and a boat are included. I mean, how much more do you need? Okay, you need a lot more.

It is your responsibility to sort out your own gear hire before the day of the dive. We are happy to help, but you will need to ask :-)

You will need your own mask, snorkel, fins and sense of adventure. Unidive does not hire these. We do hire other stuff though! Like wetsuits, hooded vests, BCDs and regs. Check the website for the full list and gear hire costs.

It is a legal requirement that you dive with an SMB/safety sausage and cutting device. Unidive doesn't hire these, but you can buy them at The Shed.

Pre Dive Meeting

Speaking of which, this will be held at The Shed on Thur 26 Sep, 6.30pm. If you can't make the pre-dive meeting, please don't sign up to this dive. The dive will be a long day, with a lot to coordinate and that's easier if everyone is at the meeting.

Food on the day

Blue Bay Divers will provide surface interval snacks including hot savoury pastries, fresh fruit and a selection of cookies and chocolates served with your choice of tea or coffee.

Diver Requirements

To participate in this dive you must be:

  • A certified diver
  • A current Unidive member
  • Medically fit to dive
  • Have your gear sorted (including bringing your own mask, snorkel, and fins, cutting device, safety sausage....)

If you have questions, please contact Delphine.
