President's Report

Published Mon 13 Mar 2017

We had a really successful O-Week with somewhere around 100 new members signing up! Whoa! There’s still a fair few who haven’t got around to registering on the website, but I’m sure they’ll get to it eventually.

Did you know we have a FAQ page on the website? And lots of club history and stuff like that? You know how every website has an About section and you just ignore it because it’s just waffle about the directors of the company or something? Well our About page actually has interesting stuff linked from it – go check it out

We also have a lot of really useful stuff on the Club Documents page, some of which requires you to log in. This includes the club’s Code of Conduct, Rules and By-Laws, which all members agree to follow when they join but very few actually read! So I just thought I’d point out that the By-Laws at least, do have some actually useful stuff in them – like what a Dive Supervisor’s job is on a trip and essentially a checklist of what you’re supposed to do. Did you know we even have Dive Supervisors?

I know it isn’t always easy to find what you need on the website and we do have an on-going plan/project to fix it up. If anyone is good at that kind of thing and wants to help, let Sharon know secretary@unidive.org

And finally… it’s that time of year when we all need to start thinking about who we want on the committee for the next Unidive year. The AGM will be on the 20th April (we’ll do a proper invite later, but save the date!) and ALL POSITIONS ARE UP FOR GRABS! I’ll be sending around a series of emails with info about what each of the positions do so you can think about whether you want to do them or who you’d like to nominate.

This club is very active at the moment and we’ve got a LOT of members! But remember that the Management Committee positions are about being coordinators – this isn’t a shop and we’re not paid employees here to provide a service to you. You really do “get out what you put in” with this club – so step up and volunteer to help out to get the most out of it. If you think you don’t know how, just ask and we’ll be more than willing to show you the ropes!

Finally, a huge thank you on behalf of everyone to all the wonderful people who volunteer their time to make this club great! It’s not just the committee who make things happen: trip organisers, boathandlers, safety committee, gear hire assistants, membership assistants, barbecue cooks, conservation project organisers, underwater rugby coordinators, towers, tank carriers, talk presenters, and people who just hang out at the shed making it a welcoming and social place to be on a Thursday night. This is what a club is all about!
